Library Media Center at B-HVS

At B-HVS, we believe that independent reading is one of the most powerful ways children grow as learners! When students read on their own each day, they build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension skills, expand their imagination, and develop the stamina needed for lifelong learning. Independent reading also fosters creativity, empathy, and confidence as children discover new ideas, cultures, and perspectives through books.

We encourage all students to read 20–30 minutes each day outside of school. This daily practice helps reinforce the skills taught in the classroom and supports steady academic growth across all subject areas. Just like practicing a sport or musical instrument, consistent reading makes a meaningful difference.

Families play an important role in nurturing strong readers. Setting aside a quiet time for reading, visiting the library regularly, and showing excitement about books can help children develop positive reading habits that last a lifetime.

Together, we can help every child become a confident, capable, and enthusiastic reader!
